BGS 10 (Pristine / Black Label)
The highest BGS grade. A BGS 10 Pristine requires 10s on all four sub-grades (centering, corners, edges, surface). A "Black Label" 10 is the rarest grade in the hobby.
BGS 10 Pristine is the holy grail of modern card grading. Every sub-grade — Centering, Corners, Edges, and Surface — must individually score a 10. When all four sub-grades are 10, the card receives a black label instead of the standard gold label, making it a "BGS 10 Black Label."
Black Labels are exceptionally rare. Fewer than 1% of BGS submissions receive a Pristine 10, and Black Labels are even rarer. For context, a BGS 10 Black Label of a popular rookie card can sell for 5-20x the price of the same card in PSA 10.
The distinction between BGS 9.5 Gem Mint and BGS 10 Pristine is subtle but financially massive. A card that misses BGS 10 often receives a 9.5 — still an excellent grade but dramatically less valuable than the 10.
